The brothers of Sigma Beta Tau once again dominated the attendance numbers at the Kean Greek Reunion Party during the Homecoming festivities at the Harwood Arena on October 5th, with at least 25% of the some 200 attendees. Since the inception of this annual get together, started by several Tau brothers, the fraternity has demonstrated both its continued support of the University, and the fact that from induction on, the commitment to Sigma Beta Tau is life-long.
Indicative of that commitment was the fact that the attendees spanned the Tau spectrum from founding brothers to brothers newly graduated. The ease with which the older brothers and the young bulls interacted showed that the original concepts of the fraternity are continued, and that the same types of men, men of merit, honor and loyalty, are being inducted to continue the fraternity’s mission of service, brotherhood, and trust.
Tau Executive Board member Paul DiCorcia (Epsilon) stated that the young alumni he had a chance to interact with during the night have the same qualities as the brothers he was inducted with 51 years ago. “It’s great to see the quality of brothers being brought into the brotherhood,” DiCorcia, one of only two brothers who served twice as president of the active brotherhood, said, “the fraternity is by far the largest on campus with 44 active brothers, and, with the alumni association becoming stronger each year, we can be assured of a bright future for Tau.”
On Saturday, a number of brothers assembled at Suspenders to remember those brothers no longer with us. The owner of the bar was gracious enough to put the Kean-Western Connecticut game on the TV, so the young brothers could watch the game and still share stories with the old bulls. Rich Melvin, Epsilon, was impressed with the young brothers. “It’s wonderful to see how interested these younger brothers are in the history of the Fraternity. Tau is certainly a great group of young men,” Melvin stated between shots of what looked like blackberry brandy with the young bulls.
One of the main topics of discussion was the upcoming 55th Anniversary dinner. The enthusiasm indicated that the 55th could be even a greater success. One of the recent graduates was heard saying that he was amazed by the feeling of brotherhood between brothers whose pledge classes were as much as 5 decades apart.
Brothers are reminded to set aside May 18, 2013 for the 55th Anniversary Banquet.
