From my position on the timeline of life, it is honestly difficult to comprehend what has taken place over the years. As a freshman, in the fall of 1963, it was still called Newark State and there were only rumors of changing the school’s name. It was physically a small campus and you could easily walk around the entire parameter in 30 minutes without much effort. The following year, I was blown away when an invitation was received to join EBT. The fraternity was still fairly new but had already become a dominant force with members holding prestigious posts throughout the student organizations. Needless to say, I still recall the induction ceremony and realizing that my life was going to be changed forever.
During the years that followed, EBT opened doors that unleashed much more than friendships and good times. I learned so much from the brothers that it constituted a formal education all on its own. Drawing upon these experiences, I was able to leapfrog ahead in my primary career as an educator as well as in a number of successful business enterprises.
Looking over the photographs of those in the ETA class, as well as those in the years surrounding it, I am saddened to see so many who are no longer with us. But they will never be lost as long as we remember and appreciate the gifts that were passed down to us all.
