Feb. 2026 ROMEO
April 30, 2021
It was with great sadness and shock that I inform you of the passing of Brother Frank Lineberry, Kappa, on April 22, 2021 while vacationing in Florida.
Frank J. Lineberry was a retired administrator from the Middletown Board of Education. He was a resident of Neptune, NJ. He passed away on April 22, 2021 at his winter residence in Boynton Beach, Fl.
He was born in Newark, NJ on May 20, 1947. Son of Frank and Catherine Lineberry. He grew up in Shark River Hills, Neptune.
He was a graduate from Kean University (formerly Newark State College), earning a bachelor’s degree in early education and later his Master’s Degree in Education Administration. While at Kean, he was a varsity baseball player, class officer, Brother, and officer of Sigma Beta Tau fraternity. He was known by his brothers and others as a great person, liked and loved by all.
Frank dedicated his life to education and spent most of his career in Middletown. He began as a sixth-grade teacher at Fairview Elementary School, and then was a principal at River Plaza, Nutswamp, and Thorne Middle School.
The last 10 years of his career were spent as a clinical supervisor mentoring future educators from Kean and Georgian Court Universities where he observed student teachers in several NJ school districts. A post that brought him much joy and happiness. However, his greatest treasure in life was his family.
Frank loved skiing with his wife Sydney and their yearly trips to Cape Cod. He also enjoyed fishing, golfing, umpiring, going to the beach, and being outside. But most of all he loved watching his grandchildren be them, whether it was playing in the band, dancing on stage, singing and acting in a play, hitting baseballs, shooting hoops or catching lacrosse balls, Pop was always there cheering them on.
When Frank spoke, everyone listened. He could captivate an audience with his quick wit and charm. He had a twinkle in his eye and his smile could light up a room. Everybody that knew him was thankful to be a part of his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Sydney Lineberry, his daughter Erin & husband Brian Kennedy, his son Jamy & wife Bethany Lineberry, his stepchildren Scott Atkins, and Chris & Sandy Atkins. His 6 grandchildren Connor, Alyssa, Brandon, Liam, Ella, & Maddy; as well as his sister Nancy & Mike Hoey.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s memory to The Make a Wish Foundation would be greatly appreciated by his family.

Very difficult coming to the realization that Frank has passed. It feels as if Greek football and softball were only last season and that Greek sing had just concluded. I was fortunate to have kept in touch with Frank throughout the years through our families and the education profession. A great professional, athlete and Brother in so many ways. This one is going to take a long, long, long time to sink in. Our prays and memories are with Frank and his family at this time and forever.
