Alpha 1958 – 1959
George Sisko, of Matawan, was born February 28, 1939 in New Brunswick, NJ. He grew up in Cartaret, NJ where he excelled in both football and baseball. He attended Newark State College where he earned his BA and his first MA. He began his teaching career in his home town of Cartaret, where many of his students and athletes remember him as both a great teacher and a football coach. George would earn his second MA at Jersey City State College, and his ABD Ed.D at Rutgers University. He became the Associate Dean of Administration and Academic Affairs at Kean University, where he enjoyed a long and esteemed career
He is survived by his wife Yvonne, brother Bob Sisko, son Ted Sisko, and daughter Laura Hoff, children in law Dave Hoff and Jennifer Connelly, and grandchildren Alex, Charlotte and Poppy.
His last words were “Love you guys”, to his grandchildren.
Special thoughts of George from his brother, Robert Sisko.
I loved my brother George dearly and I’d like to share some fond memories of the many experiences we shared together. George was always kind, friendly, and soft spoken. He brought out the best in the lives of everyone he came in contact with. I idolized my brother and I always wanted to be just like him. He was my mentor and someone I always looked up to. He gave me advice about many things and he always said if you need help with anything, no matter when just call and I’ll be there 24/7.
When I was in high school and George was in college we worked as staff members at Scout Camp. In fact, George was the Camp Director for 2 summers. After college we would spend summer vacation living and working at the Jersey Shore. In the winter, we were able to spend time skiing in New York State. During this time, we traveled extensively throughout the United States, including a month long coast to coast trip.
George attended Newark State College and during his freshman year, the school moved from Newark to the Union Campus. George was one of the students hired by the school to help with the move.
George was also a part of a group of young men who started the Sigma Beta Tau Fraternity in 1958, a brotherhood that still exists on campus after 60 years.
Eventually George became an administrator at Kean and prior to his retirement was an integral part of its rapid growth and development as it transitioned into a University.
George fought very hard to win his battle with cancer. He was always upbeat, even through all the treatments he had to endure. He kept a positive attitude and he wa determined to overcome this illness. He never gave up hope that he could be it but it was just too devastating to his body. The long is fight is over, and you will be missed but now you can finally have the rest and pain free peace that you so richly deserve. I LOVE YOU BROTHER!!

Good morning Brother James – looking thru the memories I saw a great photo of my brother George when he was a faculty member at the school – where did you get that photo? Was it in a yearbook or do you have the actual photo? I do not have that photo and I would like it or a copy of it to send to my sister-in-law who lives by herself in Florida since my brother passed. I would appreciate your help in this matter. (PS If you have the original I would certainly be very pleased with that as well.) Thanks again – you have done a great job putting this tribute to the frat together!
Good morning Robert!
